Cottage Barn is a home from home. It is cosy, well equipped and has a spectacular galleried bedroom on the first floor. The barn is located in the farming village of Jacobstow near Bude and when you stay here you really are in the middle of farm life unlike so many barn conversions where farming is long forgotten. With its stone exterior and exposed beams, granite blocks and a rough plaster finish inside, Cottage Barn has loads of character. Dogs are welcome [2 max.] but please look at our 'Things You Need to Know Page' for further details. If you are bringing a dog please ensure that it is either 'animal proof' or well supervised as there are chickens, geese and sheep in adjacent fields as well as dairy and beef herds nearby*.

Cottage Barn has two bedrooms, the upstairs galleried bedroom has a double bed plus a single bed. Downstairs there is a bedroom with twin beds and a chair bed that makes into a single bed. There is an additional chairbed in the dining room. Cottage Barn can therefore accommodate up to 6 people in a variety of bed combinations (!) but is too crowded if 6 adults are using it, 2 adults and 4 children would be the maximum size of group that could be comfortably accommodated. We only supply bed linen and towels for 4 people.

The garden was extended in 2008 and now comprises a grassy section plus a 3-tiered area with gravel, planted and paved sections so that you can follow the sun all day, starting on the chairs next to the conservatory and ending up sitting at the table on the paved patio at the end of the garden, catching the last rays as the sun sets behind the barn next door.

For quiet nights in, the barn is equipped with:
  •  digital tv and video player + selection of videos
  •  DVD player + a selection of DVD's
  •  ipod docking station
  •  books, games and videos
  •  CD/radio

and a lovely conservatory complete with fairy lights, ideal for chatting and relaxing on warm summer nights. There is a woodburning stove in the conservatory as well making it an ideal spot for autumn and winter evenings.

We have acquired a couple of little bar-b-q's which visitors have left behind, nothing 'posh' but perfectly adequate for cooking your lunch or supper so don't feel you need to pack your own.

If you don't want to cook there are numerous pubs and restaurants within a short drive [or you could walk to The Wainhouse, the nearest pub]. Details of several are on the noticeboard in the hallway at the barn, with comments left by guests so that you get an honest opinion as to what is on offer at the various places. The 'Links to useful sites' page of this website will take you to websites for local pubs and restaurants.

*NB Although Cottage Barn is sited between two farms, hiring Cottage Barn does not give you any right to enter either farm. Farms are potentially dangerous places so please ensure you make any children you bring to the cottage aware of where they can and can't go. Please note too that when lambs and calves are being born this will be a further temptation to children but is also when animals are at their most protective so for safety's sake and out of courtesy to our neighbours please respect boundaries.

The barn has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and can accommodate 4-6 people. The upstairs bedroom is galleried, overlooking the dining room at one end and has its own bathroom. This room has a double bed + a single bed and pull out single bed. The other bedroom is downstairs and is a twin bedded room with a very comfortable bedchair that can be used to make this a triple room. There is an adjacent bathroom downstairs with shower, wc and sink. The barn offers a spacious lounge/dining room with vaulted ceiling at one end. There is another bed chair in the dining room so sleeping accommodation is flexible but only 6 people can stay at the barn at any time.

A conservatory leads off from the sitting room. There is a well equipped kitchen. The recently extended garden has lovely views of the surrounding countryside and offers various seating locations in various suntraps. Dogs [2 max] are welcome but be aware that the barn is located next to two farms and there are cows, sheep, chickens and geese in adjacent fields.  Although the garden is fenced no fence is 'dog proof' so if you suspect your  dog might chase or kill chickens/geese etc please bring a means of tying him/her up. There is space to park 2 cars one behind the other at the front of the barn.
